UNIVERSITY OF HAWAIʻI at WEST OʻAHU

Noe Tupou.jpg

Noe Tupou, Hawaiian & Pacific Studies Teacher

State & City: Honolulu, HI

Why are you interested in receiving an online course scholarship?: I cannot afford to do this course and have wanted to make a dreamboard for a long time after 2 MAJOR life changes in the last 2 years.

What is your experience with Dreamboarding? Please explain:: I created a dreamboard with friends and in all the moves and changes in my life it was destroyed/lost.

What are your dreams, goals, hopes for the future?: Happiness for myself, my husband and our 3 kids (8, 13 & 17)
A zen/happy place to call home
Find a job I love- once again

What tools do you use to support yourself in creating dreams, encouraging yourself to pursue those dreams and holding yourself accountable?: None, Iʻve been having a hard time dreaming since Iʻve been in survival mode after 2 dramatic events ~ Loss of the job Iʻve had for the last 10 years (July 2016) & the sudden Marco Polo Fire (July 2017).

As a leader in the education system, how do you inspire students to discover their dreams and encourage them to pursue them? What strategy do you use to hold them accountable?: I like to implant activities and assignments that empower through example. In the past I have invited Hawaiian and Pacific literary authors into my classroom to illustrate that students can do anything they want with their life. By bringing in these guests, students learn that they are just regular people like they are.

What do you hope to gain from our The Art of Dreamboarding course?: I hope to identify and reignite my dreams and set some new "out of the box" goals that push my boundries.

Annie Thomas, Hawaiian Resources Librarian and Teacher

State & City: Honolulu

Why are you interested in receiving an online course scholarship?: I would like to live my life with intention and purpose. I am interested in reflecting on the kind of life I want to lead and setting goals for myself and my future. I am interested in this scholarship because dreamboarding seems like a great way to help me focus my goals and I would not be able to afford this opportunity otherwise.

What is your experience with Dreamboarding? Please explain:: I do not have any experience creating a dreamboard.

What are your dreams, goals, hopes for the future?: I would like to feel balanced in my life, in health and spirit. I would like to be financially stable and a homeowner. I would like to take more time and risks to explore my creative side. I want to travel!

What tools do you use to support yourself in creating dreams, encouraging yourself to pursue those dreams and holding yourself accountable?: Right now, I do not have tools for this. Sometimes I journal, but not too much lately. My family has always supported and encouraged me to pursue my goals and dreams.

As a leader in the education system, how do you inspire students to discover their dreams and encourage them to pursue them? What strategy do you use to hold them accountable?: As a librarian and educator, I try to inspire my students to believe in themselves and let them know that they are responsible for their own education, at school and beyond. I urge them to take risks and emphasize that without risk their is no reward.

What do you hope to gain from our The Art of Dreamboarding course?: I hope to clarify for myself what my goals and dreams are. I would like to gain the tools to be more purposeful in how I live my life and make decisions with intention, having short and long term goals in mind.
